About the Chaperon Virtual Tour

I created the Interactive 3D Tour of the Green River steamboat Chaperon between 2016 and 2018 using the open-source 3D modelling software Blender. It is my first Blender project. The progress of my learning can be seen in my Tumblr blog Western River Steamboats. The steamboat tour is on display at the Verkehrsmuseum Dresden. I would like to thank the museum for their interest and support. I would also like to thank steamboat expert John Fryant, who took notice of my work and has given me invaluable advice on the reconstruction of this boat.

How to Use It

Using the web application should be pretty much straightforward:
  • You can switch to an anaglyph version by clicking on the glasses icon Anaglyph glasses icon on the top right. This gives you a 3D impression of the boat. Of course, you need red-cyan glasses for this.
  • Switch off the rotation of the 360° images by clicking on the play/pause icon Pause button.
  • Within the 360° image bubbles, click on the link hotspots Link hotspot icon to go to the next scene, or select scenes from the menu on the left.
